JICA – Project for Improving Teaching and learning Matchematics in Primary Education (iTEAM2)
In the Project for Improving Teaching and Learning Mathematics in Primary Education (iTEAM2), implemented by JICA, support is provided for the introduction of a new curriculum focusing on problem solving learning through the revision of the primary mathematics curriculum and the development of textbooks and teacher’s guides.
Civitas oversaw a baseline survey at 70 primary schools in 14 districts, including the measuring of the level of understanding and appreciation of mathematics in Grade 3 and Grade 5 classrooms among both students and teachers. A special questionnaire was added for the teachers to determine the strength of the teaching methodologies used. Principals were also asked to provide a self-assessment about school management for improving the quality of teaching and learning, and the state of students, teachers, and parents of the school.
